How To Find Your iPhone/iPod Touch Serial Number

If you have ever contacted Apple for support on any of their products, you know the first question they are going to ask you is… “What is your serial number?”. The serial number is easy to find on most of their products because they allow you to access it through the software. This is typically a much better alternative to turning the device off to flip it over, remove the battery and squint to read the long string of letters and number in a size 4 font.

The only problem is that each device OS has a different location to find this serial number. This article explains how to find the serial number in your iPhone device. It will also work for the iPhone 3G since they use the same operating system. And it should also work the same for the iPod Touch.

From the main screen on your iPhone/iPod Touch, tap the “Settings” icon.
On the Settings screen, tap the General section.
Now tap the About section.
Scroll down a ways and you will see an item for “Serial Number”. That’s it, read that off to the support person and you’ll be on your way.

any update on whether or not you can find a ipod touch once it was stolen? i have a student who had hers stolen and it doesnt sound like she had an tracking devices downloaded. Also wondered if they would even be able to do anything with it beings she has the serial number and has it registered. Fill me in I’m a bit clueless with some of this new technology! Thanks!! 1.open itunes on your computer
2.go to edit button top left
3.go to preferences
4.go to devices the tap on your ipod and it will say the serial number

i have the same problem as Jen’s student. My teacher took my iPod and told me that i could have it at the end of class. She put it on her desk, and turned around and started grading papers. Well, things happened, and when i went to get my iPod, it was gone. I know it wasnt my teacher, because she is also my step mom. I dont have my Serial number, but i was wondering if i would be able to get it off the Backup i made on iTunes? Please reply soon, i have very important stuff saved on my iPod. Thank you

If your IPhone has been lost or stolen to find your IMEI and Serial # using ITunes do the following:

>Open ITunes
>Go to edit (next to file)
>Select preferences
>Click on the Devices Tab
>Look in the Device backups section of the pop up
>Place your pointer icon over the particular device *No need to click* & a little pop up will show with your phone #, IMEI & Serial #

Once you have selected the device tab: you will have a view of the last time you synched your phone to ITunes (this is the last time your phone data was backed up to ITunes). ITunes defaults to automatically synch/back up your phone data when connecting it by USB (even just to charge) if you did not change the default settings.

Lost my Black 3G 16GB IPhone on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Chilkoot Charlies in Anchorage, AK between 11:00PM and 2:00AM…

Any ideas or suggestions of finding it or reporting it missing anywhere and everywhere??? I wish I knew that tracking apps existed for the IPhone before it had been stolen!

I have reported it stolen with the Police Department and AT&T, suspended the phone service & about to make a lost posting on Craigslist. I have a security lock on the phone so it can’t be used until someone inputs the correct security code to unlock the phone and use it… Help me please! Eureka! I only drove to two locations (Mac and AT&T), consulted 3 Apple websites, and the only thing I was able to find was the model number of my iphone. Now maybe I can get help! Many thanks.

Same as Peter, my iPod Touch 4th generation was stolen at school also (I left my bag on my chair went to the other ide of the class and came back to find only my phone and money in it!!!). I didn’t download the Find My iPod app or anything similar. How can I get it back??? I have lots of stuff on it like my email, facebook etc… I only had a 4 digit number passcode lock, so if I don’t find it soon someone may hack into it!!! my iphone is actually was for my father and he gave it to me. he doesn’t remember the Appleid password. i need to reset the password but the AOL id (s.piphone@hotmail.com) is not active and dad doesnt know its password, the man in the phone shop made this email for him. he doesnt remember the password.
i need to recover the appleid for (s.piphone@hotmail.com) so that i can update the applications i have and synchronize the iphone with my itune.

All people looking for your lost iPhone or iPod. If you don’t have tracking software (find my iPhone) on it, you are out of luck. AT&T or whoever your provider is can’t track it for you. They don’t even keep track of stolen/missing serial numbers. So, someone need just remove your SIM card and they have a new phone!

In my case, I did use Find My iPhone. I tracked the phone to a building in San Diego. With my serial number in hand, I called the local police and they will be sending a detective to bang on the door and ask for the cell phone back. Chances are the person will say they don’t have one and then I’ll be SOL. But at least there is a chance it’ll be returned.

So… everyone, stop asking for someone to find your phone. It won’t happen. The only person that can do it is you. If you don’t have tracking software, I recommend you pay $10 and go to a psychic… they’re you’re only hope.
